I am delighted that you are considering the support of a midwife. Motherhood was the culmination of a series of events that had been tapping at my heart since 2007. Although both my first son and I were healthy after his delivery, my hospital birth was not the positive experience that I had hoped for. However, his delivery was the initial catalyst for my training as a doula and childbirth instructor. (Natalie's Biography)
As fate intervened, I found myself practicing as a doula in Des Moines, Iowa after my husband's job relocation. It was there, in the Midwest, that I attended my first out-of-hospital birth and caught my very first baby. It
was also there that I experienced my own redemptive homebirth with the addition of my second son.
Once again our family found ourselves bound for a new state. New Jersey would be where I birthed my daughter and my future as a midwife. Having experienced a lack of options in birth for myself with her pregnancy, and knowing that my own hometown of Pittsburgh had this same limitation, my decision was made. I was heading back home to become a CPM.
