COVID-19 & Pregnancy
In a time of uncertainty, Evidence Based Birth has provided the latest information on pregnancy and COVID-19. Here's what we know:
-Wearing a mask, social distancing, and being in quarantine are the best way to keep yourself and baby safe.
-Contracting SARS-CoV-2 increases the risk for preterm birth
-SARS-CoV-2 can be vertically transmitted (from parent to baby)
-If the birthing parent tests positive up to two weeks prior to giving birth, it increases the chances of the infant being admitted to the NICU.
As mentioned above, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing when not in quarantine are the best ways to keep your family safe. Studies have shown that when these practices are coupled with testing and contact tracing, the chance of prevention is greater. We recommend downloading the Novid app. Novid provides complete anonymity, doesn't require the app to be open to run, and can give you pre-exposure notifications. The app is available on both iOS and Android markets.
